Daylight on a Stick
The power of a dozen tiny suns on a small stick, ready to illuminate your printer!
In case you've always lived your life in the shadows of your toolhead. Struggled with the darkness inside your printer and are ready to step out, these small sticks are the right thing for you!
These PCBs are populated with LEDs and resistors so you can power them directly from your fan or extruder port and bring light into your Voron (or other compatible printers?).
What to expect?
- Cree or Samsung LM281+ LEDs depending on version
- A ton of light for your printer
- Easy to connect with JST XH header
- 4000k Color Temperature
- 90+ CRI for natural colors in your printer
Standard? Extra?
The standard daylight sticks use the Cree LEDs suggested in the Github Repository (see Attributions). These LEDs are highly efficient and accurate in their color rendering. They are the "Premium" option for most vendors.
We were looking around LEDs for a bit, out of curiosity if better chips existed and stumbled over the Samsung LM281+, which is a well known LED among plant enthusiast and is known for the very balanced color rendering and spectrum and its good efficiency.
Sadly these new LEDs operate at a lower voltage which caused a lot of extra heat dissipation at the resistors when using the official design. In order to alleviate this, we opted for a design with 8 series LEDs (up from 6) per group to get closer to the 24 Volt of typical printers and have a lower voltage drop on the resistor.
This leads to a generally more efficient design and higher brightness at the same power (and a bit on top, brightness and power).
tl;dr: The extra sticks are brighter and more efficient and use the best LEDs we could get on the market. Try them, they are great!
Extra sticks draw about 80mA per 8 LEDs at 24V. This means the normal size will draw about 240mA, the XXL 320mA and the matchstick 160mA.
How to use?
- Please follow the instructions on the Github repository
- Daylight Extra have different hole spacing but are compatible with the normal mounts in the repo. Custom mounts might need adjustment.
Safety instructions
- Don't flex, burn, smoke or eat.
- Should be handled by trained professionals, needs wiring and electronics expertise!
- If you run these in heated chambers for prolonged time at high power (no PWM or high duty cycle), monitor the temperature and follow the datasheet for the respective LEDs!
- Don't stare directly into the light. It's bright. These things are powered by tiny suns and can be painful to look at when at full power!

- Daylight Extra is a slightly modified version, sources available for customers on request and will be released on github after more extensive testing.
